About NowCook
I'm a working chef.
I built this for all of us.
My name is Krystal Fox. I run a kitchen for a living. I also stare into my own fridge and feel completely lost about dinner — and I couldn't find an app that actually helped. So I built one.
The professional background
I've spent most of my career in serious kitchens. Right now I work at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida — a private club where the expectations are high and the standards are set by years of craft. Before that, I worked at Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse, where I learned what it means to run a menu with precision: timing, consistency, and the kind of food that people remember.
Menu development is a big part of what I do. It means thinking in systems — what ingredients can serve double duty, how dishes balance a week's worth of nutrition and variety, how you build something that scales from a small dinner party to a full house. That's the chef's version of meal planning, and it's a skill most people don't have access to.
The actual reason I built this
Here's the thing that always struck me: I have this professional skill set, and I still struggle to answer the question "what's for dinner?" at home. Not because I don't know how to cook — obviously I do — but because the logistics are genuinely hard. What do I have? What's about to go bad? What can I make that covers dinner for the week without me going to the store every other day?
"I tried every meal-planning app I could find. Every single one expected me to start with a recipe and build outward from there. None of them would just look in my fridge and tell me what to make."
Yummly, Mealime, even just Pinterest — they all work the same way. You browse recipes until something sounds good, hope you have most of the ingredients, then figure out what's missing. That's backwards. The actual problem isn't finding recipes. It's that you have a fridge full of food and no clear path from what's in there to what's on the table tonight.
I wanted an app that worked like I work in a professional kitchen: start with what you have, build the plan from there, and only buy what you're actually missing. I couldn't find it. So in late 2025, I started building it.
What NowCook is — and isn't
NowCook is a small product built by one person. There is no "team of passionate engineers." There is no VC funding or growth target. It's me, the tool I wished existed, built carefully and launched honestly.
The recipes are chef-tuned. That means I've thought through the technique, the timing, the seasoning balance, and whether the combination actually works — not just whether it sounds plausible. There's a difference between a recipe that reads fine and one that actually produces something good. That gap is where most AI-generated recipe apps fall flat, and it's the part I've tried hardest to get right.
I don't make any health claims. I'm not a dietitian. NowCook won't tell you how many calories are in your dinner or what your macros are. If you have a severe allergy, please read labels yourself — NowCook is a cooking tool, not a medical one. What I can promise is that the restrictions you set are taken seriously and applied consistently.
The honest version of what this is
NowCook is new. It launched in June 2026 and has a small number of early users. I'm not going to tell you it's been used by thousands of people or that the reviews are glowing — I don't have that story to tell yet. What I have is a product I use myself, built on a real problem I know well, and priced honestly at $9.99/month with a 14-day free trial and no auto-charges.
If it helps you make dinner from what's already in your fridge, that's exactly what it's supposed to do. If it doesn't, email me. I'm paying attention.
